READING THE FAVOURITES OF 2010!

In a couple of days the year 2010 will be gone and with it some great(and other not so great!)book memories which I'd love to share with you guys.So, despite the fact that I have not been able to successfully finish the 100+ Book Reading Challenge hosted by J.Kaye,for the simple reason that I have only counted the books I read from mid February 2010 till December 2010, I am pretty sure I have read 100+ in 2010 and I am pretty damn proud of myself!

Without further ado, I would like to present to you my favourite reads of 2010(in no particular order.Well, maybe just the first one ;):

Perfect contemporary romance between a bad,sexy,mysterious guy and a beautiful,popular girl.

Loved it!

A Certain Slant Of Light by Laura Whitcomb

 A sweet but very painful paranormal/contemporary romance.If you haven't read it yet, get right to it!




A Reliable Wife by Robert Goolrick

This is an adult book but oh so unbelievably good!Goolrick's writing is just brilliant!

Hunger by Jackie Morse Kessler

I know that Hunger is supposed to be a YA novel, but personally I don't think it is.I think it  appeals more to  older readers.

Raw, violent, bloody.Awesome!

The Iron Daughter by Julie Kagawa

I am totally in love with the Iron Fey series but I have to say that The Iron Daughter is my favourite of the three.

 Feast Of Fools by Rachel Caine

The same goes for the Morganville Series.Feast Of Fools is my favourite of the bunch, hands down!

I just love me some Myrnin!

Pretty Little Liars by Sara Shepard

I'll take a scandalous teenage story any day!Love,love Sara Shepard!

Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins

Even though the Hunger Games series disappointed me a little in the end, it will ,without a doubt,always be embedded in my mind. 

Angelfire by Courtney Allison Moulton

This book landed on my lap just at the time I needed it most!

Shade by Jeri Smith Ready

I think would like this book a whole lot better if there were more people out there who are Team Logan!

Training school for witches and everything supernatural?I was sold from the get go!

The Forest Of Hands And Teeth by Carrie Ryan

A very deep, painful story about a girl struggling to find a home.

Spirit Bound by Richelle Mead

Why Richelle?Why did you have to do this to me?Why did you let me down in the end??

Ahem.OK now that that's out of the way, I will add Spirit Bound because granted, I loved it, but also for sentimental reasons.And because,in my opinion, Richelle Mead is simply the best YA author out there.

Phew!That post has taken me forever to finish!

I am so grateful to have read all these books,including the ones I didn't like,and most of all  a huuuuuuuge thank you goes out to theses incredible authors who had me completely mesmerized by the worlds they have created.

You guys are the best!

So that's what 2010 has been for me, bookwise. I can't wait to see what 2011 has in store for me!

I was a bit hesitant to pick up The Dark Divine at first, to be honest, because of its somewhat religious content.Personally, I have nothing against these types of books,quite the contrary.But since I am not a religious person, I simply choose not to read them.I thought I'd give this one a chance,though,since I heard so many great things about it.I am really glad I did because it turned out to be a very good read!

You may be a bit surprised when you first open The Dark Divine and see that the font is in bold.I know a lot of people don't like it, but honestly, I couldn't care less.It could be in super large letters or italics or underlined, and I still wouldn't mind.If it's readable, it's fine by me.It's the content I am interested in.Besides, I find that bold letters are way easier to read.
I liked all the characters of this book and I think they are very well written by Despain.I liked Grace very much.Granted, she acted a bit prudish for my taste, but not so much as to make her completely unrelatable or unreal.She is a pastor's daughter after all, and her upbringing must be such. The writing was by no means dogmatic and the family's beliefs and way of life were neither exaggerated nor used as an example and I really appreciated that.Mentioning God and angels is not the purpose of this book, but simply a part of it.
Grace and Daniel's relationship was so sweet!He is all mysterious and dark and she is so pure and cute.Their attraction and chemistry is undeniable and I can't wait to see more of them in the future!

All in all, The Dark Divine was a very good paranormal story which can appeal to a lot of people, whether they are religious or not. Recommended!

Dash&Lily's narrative is split between two POVs: that of Lily and Dash. Cohn wrote the Lily parts and Levithan the Dash parts.Lily is a very good,obedient,almost dorky girl, who finds herself,for the first time in her life,completely alone during Christmas holidays,seeking for something to fill the emptiness she didn't know she had.She has a loving and caring family, but she has recently discovered that something is missing from her life.Despite the fact that Lily was too much of a goody-two-shoes for me, she overreacted to a lot of things and situations, she was a brave and resourceful girl.Overall a likeable character.  Dash,I believe,was the complete opposite of Lily.Not that he wasn't brave and outspoken, quite the opposite.The thing is that he was too much of it.Too much of everything, in my opinion. Levithan's writing of Dash was very eloquent and sophisticated.Which is not by itself bad, but it got to a point that you just couldn't connect with him.It's not believable for a boy in his teens to use such refined words and read poetry and wear fedora hats.At least not to me. Maybe I was hanging out with the wrong crowd when I was a teen, I don't know.But he couldn't help but sound like a middle aged college professor at times and it put me off a little bit. It took away from the mystique and the romantic atmosphere that I guess the book was after.
Writing aside, I have to give a lot of credit to the uniqueness of the story.As soon as a read the blurb on the back, I knew I had to read this book!Finding love during Christmas, in NY, under the most mysterious and intriguing circumstances?I mean,who wouldn't want to experience something like that? And believe me,if I wasn't broke at the moment,I would book  tickets to NY right now, just for the chance to stand outside of the Strand, which just sounds paradise on earth to me!

I don't know if Dash and Lily were meant to be together.To be honest, I doubt it.But everything is in the trying, in taking risks and eventually, that little step forward. And even if you get hurt in the end, at least you will have enjoyed the journey!

Anna And The French Kiss is definitely my favourite read of 2010.Maybe of all time.Yes.That's how good it is!

Anna had every freaking thing working for it!Perkins's writing was brilliant!She captured the beauty of friendship, the magnificence of love and the agony of heartbreak perfectly.Her descriptions of Paris and its monuments were breathtaking.Stephanie, I don't know if you've ever been to Paris, but if you haven't, I admire you even more(is that's even possible!) for the beautiful imagery you chose to share with us!
The characters in this book were flawless.They were flawless because they were so flawed.Does that make sense?Anna is a teenage girl from Atlanta who has never been abroad.Suddenly her life turns upside down when her father practically forces her to go to school in Paris, France for a whole year.She obviously feels lost and sad of the life she left behind.Her little brother, her mother, her almost boyfriend.Paris, however beautiful, is not her home.Until she finds St.Clair.If you're looking for the obvious "hot guy",with washboard abs,perfect eyes,perfect skin,perfect everything who stands in the corner brooding, you won't find any in this book.And thank God for that!Ettiene St.Clair is an absolutely normal, charming and oh so sweet 18 year old buy.He is short and has a fear of heights, which I personally found adorable.I loved everything about him, from his British accent to his ridiculously cute hat.He is not the perfect guy that always does the right thing.He has his own demons, which he battles with every day.But he and Anna somehow are the perfect match.His very presence soothes her and her compassion makes him complete.It's not just the obvious attraction to each other and their relentless flirting, which made me giggle like a schoolgirl, by the way.It's something way deeper than that.He is her best friend.She is his best friend.They find solace in each other.Their love is indeed perfect.
I am really struggling with this review, because I don't really know how many times I can say the words "beautiful" and "brilliant" without sounding like a broken record.Anna managed to stir up so many feelings inside me which I don't know how to express. It touched my heart deeply, and I will never ever forget it.
If Anna and The French Kiss doesn't make you want to go to Paris and fall in love, I don't know what will!

Violet is a very special girl: she can sense and consequently find dead bodies of animals and humans.So, when she starts discovering several dead bodies,all of them young girls, people in town start to get really worried and come to the conclusion that they have a serial killer in their midst. Seeing however that killing something or someone leaves an echo,an imprint,not only on the dead body but on the killer himself, Violet with the help of her friend Jay, set out to find the man who caused so much pain to so many girls and end his killing spree once and for all.

I find The Body Finder's story to be very unique and original in the YA genre.That's what made me want to read it so badly, in the first place.What can I say?I am a sucker for morbid and gruesome stories!And this one didn't disappoint!The best part for me was the narration from the killer's POV, so distant and detached and cruel.I was completely captivated by this person and the way Kimberly chose to picture him, that I was more than excited and thrilled to eventually find out his true identity.And that's when the book disappointed me.Despite the killer's great introduction, when he was finally revealed, I couldn't help feeling let down."What?It was him?Hm OK.Well." It was quite sudden for me, the revelation.I thought it would play out a little bit longer and honestly, in the end I just couldn't get over how very anti climactic the ending was to an otherwise beautifully built story.
As for the characters, I liked both Violet and Jay.OK,maybe Jay a little bit more!He is undoubtedly a friend everyone wants to have.And without a doubt, a boyfriend every girl wants to have. Protective,caring,considerate.There is absolutely nothing wrong with Jay, everything is right about him.The same goes with Violet.Smart, strong, didn't like the way she kinda toyed with Grady at first, but I got over it quickly. Undeniable chemistry between these two makes them yet another awesome couple in YA. 

Overall, The Body Finder was a fine read with so much potential that was unfortunately left unfulfilled, story-wise.I'm definitely going to read book two in the series, Desires Of The Dead, coming out March 2011, hoping that the second time around, I will be proven wrong!

To say that I love the Vampire Academy series will surely be an understatement. To say that I admire and respect Richelle Mead as a writer, would also be insufficient. So, you can imagine how much I longed to read the 6th and final installment in the series, Last Sacrifice.I loved it,as I will always love everything VA,but not as much as I wanted to.I wanted it to make me gasp, to make me happy, to make me sad.It didn't.For the most part, it made me angry.

This is not so much a review, as my thoughts on Last Sacrifice and the Vampire Academy series in general.It goes without saying that it contains a buttload of spoilers,so please!If you haven't read Last Sacrifice, don't read the following!

Consider yourselves warned!

Let's start from the beginning.I liked the idea of Rose's escape and that all her friends risked their lives to help her.Even Sydney,who is not so big on the whole emotion thing.Granted, she was doing it because Abe had something on her, which we never found out what it was, but I also think she did it because she liked Rose.I like that it was so full of action, everything changed constantly on both sides, Rose's and Lissa's.Humor was fine, Richelle knows how to use her witty characters, but I expected it to be a little bit darker.I mean, it is the last book, everyone's life hangs on the balance and all that, I think it could be a little bit more somber and grim.OK, maybe not as much as Blood Promise was (ah, good times!) but just a smidgeon of that would have sufficed.Everything Dimitri said made me swoon.The scene in the library was one of the sweetest and most romantic scenes I have ever read.
I admire Rose. In my opinion she is the best female lead in YA because she is such a realistic character.Unfortunately, realistic characters change and not always in a good way. That is what I think happened with Rose.I am all for evolving and becoming a better person, but actually becoming worse than you were in the beginning?After all you've been through??And to be a lying cheat on top of that?I am sorry, but that is not a heroine in my book.Up until book 4, Rose was everything.I absolutely loved her!Amazing,strong,decisive,smart and every adjective that describes "awesomeness" put together.However, in Spirit Bound I realized she had changed, and I said so in my review.Back then,I said it was just human nature and it was a good thing,it showed that she could do something wrong, that she was human.I mean,who could blame her right?After what happened to her in Blood Promise?But to continue to do the same mistakes just because she got so easily away with it the first time and to still get away with it in the end, after all the hurt and pain she caused, was unacceptable to me.That goes beyond human nature and being real.That's just being mean and manipulative.To be honest I don't have to say much about Rose's behavior. If you re read Adrian's last words to her, they express exactly how I feel about Rose's actions.
I knew that the "They come first" mantra, was always in Rose's head and way of life from book 1.Back then, however, Rose thought about other people too, besides herself and Lissa, see Mason and Mia in book 2.But now "They come first" took on a completely different meaning, at least in Rose's head.She wasn't afraid of "collateral damage" as Adrian so perfectly put it."Collateral damage" just so happens to be the people who helped her in her plan in the first place, people that cared for her.And after she got what she wanted, she didn't so much as give them a second glance. Sydney the Alchemist.What will happen to her? "Oh,well!".Eddie and his ruined reputation?"Oh,well!" Adrian and his shattered heart? "Oh.I don't really care!" Seriously?I still can't believe she treated him like that!I am all for Dimitri love, don't get me wrong!I wanted these two to end up together, because they deserve it.They were truly made for each other, I believe it with all my heart.But, there's always a limit to what you can do to find happiness in someone else's expense.Honestly, I think Adrian shouldn't even exist as a character.These books were already awesome, they didn't need a love triangle.That's why it ended so badly in the end.I mean, it was painful to read!I think I'll try to erase it from my mind and pretend it never happened.Because not only had Rose cheated and lied to Adrian, she had the nerve to still make it all about her!Telling him that he was needy??He did everything for her!His great aunt had just died and he didn't even have time to mourn when he threw himself to the "Rescue Rose-mission".And she had the audacity to sleep with Dimitri and then see him,through Lissa, smoking and still scowl????Who do you think you are??I know that it's fiction guys, but some things are just unacceptable to me, especially when they are done by our supposed heroine.I think what Adrian said was right though,telling her it was his fault for being so blind.But he loved her, the fool.I don't believe Rose ever loved him.She just used him till Dimitri got better.And if he didn't,she would have dumped him for another guy. I mean Rose still loved Dimitri even when he was Strigoi, come on!The only right thing for Rose to do was a.not to have led Adrian on in the first place and b.since she did, immediately after Dimitri became human, she should had gone to Adrian and tell him that she was sorry and that she used him all this time and now she would do anything in her power to get Dimitri, the love of her life back.You know, honesty.Have the balls to admit your mistakes and take responsibility.Well, no such thing from Rose.Our heroine.In my head, there is no way around it: the way Rose used people in her life who loved her and were her friends,was awful,to say the least.
Tatiana's murderer revelation was a huge shock!Mostly because Richelle led us to believe something completely different throughout the whole book.But Tasha?Hmm I don't know.I appreciate the surprise element, but making a loving,caring person to be a cold blooded killer in the end and frame Rose on top of that?Yeah, it doesn't sit very well with me.Besides, it made me feel so bad about Christian.Who?Yeah, that's right!Almost 600 pages and Christian's lines could all fit in one page.Where was he?I wanted to see more of him, for sure.I hope he has a book of his own in the spin offs.
Lissa being queen?Too convenient. But I am sensing there'll be an awesome spin off with Jill and politics, which sounds really intriguing!
That being said,the Vampire Academy series is and always will be my favourite series of all time,absolutely no question about that.It's still, after all this time, so different from anything else I've read, that it will always have a special place in my heart, no matter what.

Misguided Angel is divided in 3 parts: the 1st is about Schuyler and Jack and their adventures in Florence, the 2nd is about Mimi, the Conclave and Oliver,in a way,and their lives back in NY and the 3d part,which kind of coincides with the 2nd, is about Deming Chen, a tough female Venator.
Surprisingly enough, I caught myself not caring very much about Schuyler and Jack's story-it was OK,but nothing special about it,whereas I was more than intrigued by the other two.I like Mimi very much,although I didn't at first. Apart from continuously being fabulous, I think she's grown so much as a character because and in spite of everything that went on with her life: the love of her...many lives leaving her at the altar for someone else, being made Regent and having this huge responsibility of protecting everyone, and of course the agony of not knowing if the man she came to love is dead or alive.So, when I saw her lowering her defenses and putting aside her beliefs and the way she was raised and get closer with Red Bloods, it didn't surprise me at all, but I found it fascinating, nonetheless. 
I found Deming to be a great addition to the books!I hope Melissa decides to keep her around a little while longer because she's awesome! She's strong, fierce, resilient but also loving and sensitive when she needs to be.I like her wit and the way she presents herself. Without a doubt, she will absolutely make you love Venators!
I know I've said it before,but I will say it again: these books have an extremely dense plot.It may not look like it in the 1st or maybe the 2nd book but as the story unravels, there are so many aspects to it and so much detail, that it'd be best if you keep some notes when you finish a book, so when it's time to pick up the next book, you can read them and remember some things that have taken place in the past. Personally, I like that side of Blue Bloods novels.It's something that makes them stand out from the majority of YA books with a simple enough and easily forgotten story.That's what drew me to the series in the first place.
Really sorry for the short review, I wanted to keep it simple so as not to spoil those who haven't read it yet.Misguided Angel is a great installment in the Blue Blood series and I am sure you'll love Deming as much as I did!Loved the ending, how everything comes together in the end, like going full circle.Blue Bloods is still going strong!

Everyone who knows me, knows very well that I was going crazy over Delirium.Totally crazy!There was an excerpt at the end of Before I Fall and after reading it,I couldn't get over how unique and original the story sounded.I just had to have it!

Well, while it definitely didn't disappoint, it wasn't what I expected,either.
We all have been acquainted with Oliver's writing in Before I Fall.It's very realistic and makes everyone and everything she describes believable.The world she's created is pretty freakish, nightmarish.A world without love does not, in any way, mean a world free of hurt.It means a world full of ignorance, indifference and hate. And that's what all the people in Portland and pretty much everyone around the US grew up in - the world of Delirium.They constantly had the "authorities" breathing down their necks, closely watching them 24/7, in case they dared express even a smidgeon of happiness and love towards one another.Lena, or Magdalena, as her mother named her, grew up in this world.She was content in it, settled in her own little programmed and miserable life, not knowing any better.But when she meets Alex, the veil of oblivion is lifted from her eyes and she opens her heart, ready to start learning how to love.
I liked Lena's and Alex's relationship.They had an obvious connection which was absolutely believable.However, Lena coming from the background that she did-her family was very cold and cruel-it may not seem believable to some people, just because of the ease with which it happened.The relationship itself was great,I just think that its grounds were a bit shaky.
What it really put me off about the book though, it's its ending.I so didn't want it to be yet another one of these melodramatic endings,Romeo&Juliet style.And in Romeo and Juliet's case, I completely understood the reason behind their actions.In Lena and Alex's case, I didn't.Nothing of what they chose to do in the end was justifiable, especially Alex's actions.And the note from Lena's POV in the end?It sounded very selfish to me and definitely not like Lena at all!
Overall Delirium, while being a very good book, it lacked a certain oomph , something that would make it stand out. Other than that, I recommend it to people who are looking for a good dystopian read.
