She broke the law when she ran away from St. Vladimir’s Academy with her best friend and last surviving Dragomir Princess, Lissa. She broke the law when she fell in love with her gorgeous, off-limits instructor, Dimitri. And she dared to defy Queen Tatiana, leader of the Moroi world, risking her life and reputation to protect generations of dhampir guardian to come.
Now the law has finally caught up with Rose- for a crime she didn’t even commit. She’s in prison for the highest offense imaginable: the assassination of a monarch. She’ll need help from both Dimitri and Adrian to find the one living person who can stall her execution and force the Moroi elite to acknowledge a shocking new candidate for the royal throne: Vasilisa Dragomir.
But the clock on Rose’s life is running out. Rose knows in her heart the world of the dead wants her back… and this time she is truly out of second chances. The big question is, when your life is about saving others, who will save you?
This is not so much a review, as my thoughts on Last Sacrifice and the Vampire Academy series in general. It goes without saying that it contains a buttload of spoilers,so please! If you haven't read Last Sacrifice, don't read the following!
Consider yourselves warned!
The end.
I only read the first book because of the love triangle. I was waiting for it end before reading the rest of the series. These things drag out so long now and as you've pointed out are rarely needed to add tension. There was enough going on with Rose and Dimitri without all the added drama. I think this was the most overused plot device this year.
ReplyDeleteI totally agree! I felt terrible for Adrian, but I actually never really liked Tasha's character. Something about her always gave me a bad vibe. Other than that great review!
ReplyDeleteGreat review. You put my thoughts into words, and made some good points. And I agree, I really wanted to see more of Christian, especially at the end after he found about Tasha, but we barely saw him. I loved the library scene, too! So perfect!
ReplyDelete@Karen You've only read the one book and then read my review? It's full of spoilers, girl LOL
ReplyDeleteThing is, this series didn't drag at all.Quite the opposite. That's why it's so good and that's why it was such a let down for me.So many good stuff could be in the last book which were unfortunately replaced by some stuff I didn't like.
@Anaiz She did?Well, now that you've mentioned it...
@Rachel Thanks Rachel :)
just posted my review for LS.
ReplyDeleteyeah, same here. i feel bad about what rose did to adrian. . . i expected her to end up with dimitri - just not like that. i love adrian too but she should have told adrian first before she made love with dimka. bad rose... bad.
as for tasha - i guessed it was her or adrian's mother. how rose knew it - thats unexpected.

Oh god, you totally summed up my feelings for Rose in this review/thoughts section. I swear, I loved Rose up until book 3. I hated her guts in 4, she got better in 5, she was a little iffy in LS but the ending decided my... angst? I don't even know what to feel for her, yeesh! Adrian did NOT deserve any of that. He was NOTHING BUT GOOD to her. He constantly sacrificed everything he had for Rose. He gave her money, he helped bust her out of jail, he kept her secrets, he was always by her side. Honestly, I could list every damn good thing Adrian did for Rose in a 5 page Word document. To say I was livid at what Rose did, how her personality took a major downfall from what was previously awesome, is an understatement. I was just disappointed by Rose.
ReplyDeleteI mean, poor Adrian. He never had a chance. I knew that. I just didn't know how crappily Rose would treat him. To be honest, that whole thing made me unable to appreciate Rose and Dimitri finally being together.
As for Lissa being queen - I had the same thoughts. Seemed too convenient.
And for Tasha. I knew it was her from the very start. (Well, okay, not from the START but from the beginnings of when people started investigating, etc). How did I know? Well, Richelle ALWAYS gives names to people when they AREN'T the "bad guy". Does that make sense? She's done that a couple of times now. So once she named Adrian's mother the culprit, I knew it wasn't Adrian's mother. Plus, I agree with Anaiz - Tasha rubbed me the wrong way since Frostbite.
Anyway, yeah, wow, sorry for the long comment LOL. I read Last Sacrifice over a week ago and I'm still struggling on how to review it. I have mixed emotions.
@iamjenai I still don't know how she realised it was Tasha either lol
ReplyDelete@Kristina Thanks for your comment Kristina!
I agree with you 100%!You just can't have your heroine have a character and personality regression in the last book! After everything that happened! It's just wrong!I don't know what to say, really.I still can't get over it, to be honest, because I trusted Richelle so much and she let me down. And it was a long and sudden fall. And I didn't like it :(
